This webinar will cover two separate OSSE policies related to special education: Prohibitions on Discrimination Against Children with Disabilities in the Charter School Application During the Enrollment Process and Prohibition on Mandatory Medication Guidance.
All District of Columbia charter schools, as LEAs, are bound by the same laws as other publicly funded schools; discrimination of any kind, particularly as it relates to a child’s disability status, in the application process during enrollment season, is expressly prohibited under the federal and local law.
Additionally, LEAs are prohibited from conditioning the provision of an evaluation, reevaluation, and/or services upon a parent’s decision to medicate a student.
This two-part webinar training will discuss:
- Legal prohibitions against discrimination in schools
- Application parameters (for public schools of choice)
- State-level guidance on prohibition on mandatory medication
- Policy application: LEA practice
