Assistant Superintendent for the Division of Health and Wellness
Tia Marie Brumsted serves as the Assistant Superintendent for the Division of Health and Wellness. In this role, she leads the agency’s Healthy Schools portfolio which includes the administration of federal and local child nutrition programs, health and physical education, school-based mental health, and school health policy. Mrs. Brumsted leads the Office of the State Superintendent of Education’s (OSSE’s) strategic priority, Foster Student and Staff Well-being, where she oversees cross-cutting physical, mental, and social-emotional health initiatives.
Mrs. Brumsted previously served as the Deputy Assistant Superintendent for the Division of Health and Wellness. Prior to joining OSSE, she worked as a school social worker and wellness program director within DC’s public charter and non-public education sectors. Mrs. Brumsted has 20 years’ experience in child and youth development, school and community mental health, and K-12 school administration. She is a graduate of Spelman College and Smith College School for Social Work and is the first nationally certified school social worker in the United States.
