Michael Riley

Director of Student Transportation

Michael Riley joined OSSE in January 2023 as the Director of Student Transportation, Michael Riley has led the Division of Student Transportation (DOT), coordinating and managing the executive team, providing organizational guidance, making critical budgeting decisions, and representing DOT within Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE). Notable accomplishments include the expansion of private route capacity, the launch of the Parent Stipend Program, and the Clear Lanes Initiative in partnership with the District Department of Transportation, all of which have significantly enhanced operational efficiency and improved service for students and families. Michael leads a team of approximately 1,200 employees and six private contract vendors who oversee the transportation of approximately 4,000 students to more than 250 schools and educational programs in DC, VA, and MD. 

Before his current role, Michael served as Senior Vice President - General Manager at City Sightseeing DC, overseeing operations in the Washington, DC area for a global sightseeing tour brand. He also held the role of Assistant Vice President - General Manager at Apple Bus Company, directing the largest comprehensive pupil transportation program in New Orleans, LA. Additionally, he has experience as a Client Operations Manager at Allied Universal Security Services, managing safety and security programs for Fortune 500 companies and more than 30 business cost centers throughout Louisiana. 

Michael is a veteran of both the US Navy and the Louisiana Army National Guard. He holds a Master's degree in arts from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, a Master's in business administration from American Intercontinental University, and a Bachelor's degree from Louisiana State University. He is also a past member of professional organizations such as the Louisiana American Public Transportation Association (APTA) and the International Association of Coaching (IAC).
