Reimagine Pathways to Postsecondary Success

Expanding and improving upon existing college and career preparation supports for high school and postsecondary students provides the opportunity to develop new and innovative programs with partners from across the District. Recovery investments include launching the DC Futures scholarship program, expanding access to dual enrollment and launching the Advanced Technical Center.

Key Strategies

We are employing the following strategies to reimagine pathways for postsecondary success:

  • Launch the DC Futures scholarship program: Provide tuition, coaching and additional financial support to District residents to earn degrees in high-demand fields at select DC universities.
  • Expand access to dual enrollment: Help students gain access to college coursework for credit at local institutions for higher learning through expanded dual enrollment opportunities combined with a mentoring program, which aids students in building academic skills and confidence.
  • Launch the Advanced Technical CenterEstablish the District’s first citywide hub for Career and Technical Education (CTE) programming so that high school students from across the city can take courses and build skills in high-demand career fields, such as cybersecurity, general nursing and health information technology.
  • Expand school-year internships: Provide hundreds of new internships for high school juniors and seniors that count for school credit and are paid, aligned to students’ career and technical education interests, and in high-demand career fields such as engineering, information technology and health science.
  • Build new work-based learning opportunities for middle and high school students: Increase the opportunities for students to engage with career and technical education through work-based learning experiences for middle and school students, such as field trips, career fairs, and introductory career exploration courses in high-wage, high-demand fields.
  • Increase virtual access to hard-to-reach courses: Build on the lessons learned during distance learning to broaden access to specialized courses, such as African-American Studies, Computer Science or Advanced Placement coursework for high school students across the District.
