In partnership with the DC Department of Human Resources (DCHR), OSSE is excited to support an in-person recruitment and hiring fair on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library, 901 G Street, NW.
For this fair, OSSE is looking for dedicated, mission-driven candidates who are interested in working as tutors, site coordinators, and related roles for school year 2023-24 and beyond to help close opportunity gaps and accelerate learning for students in public schools across the District through high-impact tutoring (HIT). We seek to help these candidates connect with tutoring providers who are receiving funding from OSSE and who might be an excellent fit for the launch or next chapter of their career.
This is intended to provide great candidates like yourself a chance to learn more about HIT and the work you can be a part of to accelerate academic outcomes for students across the District.
Tutoring providers all over the District are hiring for over 200 positions at the DCHR Recruitment and Hiring Fair (see the open positions section below).
Please note that OSSE is helping facilitate these connections, but the hiring process is fully owned and managed by the tutoring providers. All hires will be employees of these private entities and not DC government employees.

What is High-Impact Tutoring (HIT)?
High-impact tutoring (HIT) is a core part of the District’s recovery strategy and has expanded significantly since 2021 in schools and community-based settings as leaders learn more about the strong body of evidence for its effectiveness and how to integrate it into their programming. HIT is a form of one-to-one or small group tutoring with a well-trained tutor that occurs multiple times a week and is designed to support students with what they are learning in their math and literacy classes.

Reading Partners is a national nonprofit that mobilizes communities to provide students with the proven, individualized reading support they need to read at grade level by fourth grade.
We know that reading is the foundation for all future learning. The ability to read transforms lives and empowers children and communities to reach their full potential. Research shows that students who read at grade level by fourth grade have a greater opportunity to succeed in school and beyond.
That’s why we partner with under-resourced schools and engage volunteer reading partners to work one-on-one with students who struggle with reading. Our volunteers provide hour-long tutoring sessions to students— following a structured, evidence-based curriculum developed with an expert team of curriculum advisors.
Our program model works and is backed by evidence-based research which proves that our students make significant gains in reading.
