Advanced Technical Center Class of 2024

The Advanced Technical Center (ATC) has been created to remove barriers to access Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs in the District.

It is an open-enrollment education center where students entering 9th–11th grade in DCPS or public charter schools can participate in CTE programs while remaining enrolled in the high school of their choosing. The ATC offers two-year, four-course dual credit pathways in cybersecurity and general nursing. Students in every program can receive college course credit at no cost in addition to high school course credit, industry credentials, and paid internship opportunities. There is no application to enroll and students will be offered transportation support. ATC classes will run five days a week with two sessions offered each day.

Enrollment

Students who are entering grades 9 through 11 are eligible to enroll. There is no application required to enroll. To learn more, fill out this interest form. Interested students should talk with their school counselor to enroll.

Class of 2024 Valedictorians and Salutatorian 

Laylah Malloy, General Nursing Valedictorian | Jackson-Reed High School  
Laylah is a graduating senior from Jackson-Reed High School. After high school, she plans to obtain her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree. She wants to work specifically in maternal health. Later in her career she would like to open her own practice that offers anything from basic healthcare to birthing services. Lastly, she also wants to explore getting into teaching nursing courses. ATC has impacted her education by allowing her to become connected with amazing professors! In her free time, she enjoys reading, being in nature (walking, fishing), playing video games, photography, and drawing/painting. Laylah is a student leader, has received $139,000 in scholarships, been accepted to 16 colleges, and has completed one internship. 

Sergio Marquez, Cybersecurity Valedictorian | Paul Public Charter School  
Sergio is a graduating senior at Paul Public Charter School. Sergio plans to pursue a career in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or Urban Planning and eventually move to El Salvador to assist with the transition of the people centered infrastructure. Sergio plans to attend the University of Chicago where he has received a full tuition and room and board scholarship through the Questbridge Scholars Program in the amount of $360,000. The ATC has helped me to get many internships and has helped me obtain extracurriculars which got me a full ride to college. ATC has helped me become closer with friends and has connected me with many people. Sergio is a student leader, athlete and has received a full ride to college. Sergio enjoys the gym, playing soccer, and playing FIFA.

Kevin Amaya Martinez, Cybersecurity Valedictorian | Paul Public Charter School  
Kevin is a graduating senior at Paul Public Charter School. Post graduation, he plans to attend college where he will study Computer Science. The ATC gave him a path to follow since I didn't know what I was going to do until I joined. Kevin plans to pursue a career that involves computers. Keving enjoys playing video games in his free time. He is a student leader here at the ATC and at his home school Paul PCS. Kevin has been accepted to 6 colleges/universities, has earned 14 dual enrollment credits, and has earned AP credits from courses taken at Paul. 

Andrea Ngouabe, General Nursing Salutatorian | Paul Public Charter School 
Andrea is a rising senior at Paul Public Charter School. Her overall career goal is to become a dedicated and compassionate person who provides great care to people and their physical, emotional, and mental well-being. She aims to reach this goal by either going into politics or the healthcare field. Ultimately, she aims to make a huge difference in people's lives by ensuring that happiness, equality, and even well-being is present. The ATC has played a major part in her education as it has made her more confident, and she wants to continue helping people in the future. Lastly, the ATC has allowed her to gain more awareness of the inequality in the world, and she wants to do more to address this issue. After high school, she plans to attend a four-year college/university. For fun, she enjoys watching fantasy movies, shopping, and dressing up!

Christa is a rising senior at Paul Public Charter School. After high school she aspires to attend a 4-year university, major in cybersecurity, and pursue a career in cybersecurity. She is a student leader and athlete. She enjoys creating music, hanging out with friends, and reading.

Lavontae Howard, Cybersecurity | Paul Public Charter School  
Lavontae is a graduating senior at Paul Public Charter School. After graduation Lavontae plans to attend a four-year institution and earn a bachelor’s degree in computer science and pursue a career as a cyber analyst. The ATC has provided a better understanding of cybersecurity and how the cyber world works. Lavontae enjoys traveling, hanging out with friends, and trying new things. During his time at the ATC Lavontae has participated in OSSE’s internship program and has earned 24 dual enrollment credits.   

Elena Garcia Isidro, General Nursing | Paul Public Charter School 
Elena is a graduating senior at Paul Public Charter School. After high school she plans to attend Montogomery College for two years and transfer to a university to earn a bachelor's degree in nursing. After college, she plans to enroll in medical school to become a family physician. The ATC has helped her decide her career path. For fun, she enjoys reading and watching K-Dramas. Elena is a student leader, been accepted to 6 colleges, earned AP credits in Spanish Language & Culture, and earned 19 dual enrollment credits.

Treasure Jenkins, General Nursing | Friendship Public Charter School 
Treasure is a graduating senior at Friendship Collegiate Academy. After high school she plans to go to attend Florida A&M University and major in nursing to become a pediatric or travel nurse. The ATC has sparked her interest in the medical field and has influenced her to go into the nursing major. For fun, she enjoys hanging out with her friends, watching movies, painting, and solving puzzles. Treasure is a student-athlete, a student leader, and a national merit finalize/award recipient. She has received a full ride to college, received $232,577 in scholarships, been accepted to eight colleges, earned 23 dual enrollment credits, earned AP credits in AP Seminar, received certification in First Aid & CPR, and completed one internship. 

Alexander Lee, Cybersecurity | Cardozo Education Campus  
Alex is a graduating senior at Francis L. Cardozo Education Campus. After graduation, Alex plans to go to George Mason University where he will major in Cybersecurity. The ATC has greatly impacted his high school education life and it has set a historical record for his high school. Alex enjoys playing and watching soccer, anime, video games, and culinary arts. Alex is a student leader and athlete all while maintaining a grade point average of 3.98. Alex has received 15 acceptances, received $224,000 in merit-based scholarship, and has earned 7 dual enrollment credits up to date.  

Christopher Nelson, Cybersecurity | Paul Public Charter School  
Christopher is a rising senior at Paul Public Charter School. After high school he plans on obtaining his certifications and investing in money making assets. He wants to work for himself. Later in his career he would like to have a well-versed real estate portfolio. ATC has impacted his education by allowing him to see multiple points of views, gave him endless networking opportunities and continues to give him guidance on his journey. In his free time, he enjoys working out, reading, drawing, and meditating. 

 

Brionna Payton, General Nursing | Paul Public Charter School  
Brionna is a rising senior at Paul Public Charter School. After high school she plans to go to college and major in pre-medicine or sports medicine. After earning her degree, she would like to become an athletic trainer or an OBGYN. The ATC has helped her confirm that she wants to go into the medical field when she is finished with high school. She enjoys coloring. Brionna is student-athlete and has earned AP credits in Language and Composition.

Quera Simms, General Nursing | IDEA Public Charter School 
Quera is a graduating senior at IDEA Public Charter School. After high school, she intends to pursue a career in political and computer science. Her goals are to create a comfortable living for herself and enter the government workforce. Even though nursing is not the career she would like to pursue, the ATC has impacted in her positive ways such as improving her overall GPA, gaining scholarships, and becoming valedictorian at her home school. For fun, she enjoys drawing, gaming, napping, and exploring the outdoors when she has the time. She really loves going on little hikes. Quera is a student leader, has received a full ride to college, has received approximately $80,000 in scholarships, accepted to six colleges, earned 19 dual enrollment credits, and completed two internships.

Kenya Thomas, Cybersecurity, McKinley Technology High School 
Kenya is a graduating senior at McKinley Technology High School. After high school, Kenya plans to attend Towson University and major in Business Administration with a concentration in Leadership & Management with a minor in Marketing. Her career goals consist of helping the youth as well as using my business degree to build my own businesses. Real estate has also become an interest of mine that I plan to explore. Keyna has received $54,000 in merit-based scholarship from Towson University, 8 college acceptances, and 3 dual enrollment credits. Kenya enjoys trying new things as well as expanding her knowledge and skills.

O’Semi Thomas, Cybersecurity | IDEA Public Charter School  
O’Semi is a graduating senior at IDEA Public Charter School. O’Semi plans to attend college and further his education after graduation. He intends to major in psychology and minor in cybersecurity and pursue a career as a psychiatrist. ATC has prepared O’Semi for the college atmosphere; he learned things such as study habits and more about technology. O’Semi enjoys reading, playing games, and talking with friends. O’Semi is a student athlete and leader at the ATC and at his home school IDEA PCS. He has received seven college acceptances, earned $30,000 in merit-based scholarships, and earned 26 dual enrollment credits.

Chaya Walker, General Nursing | Eastern Senior High School 
Chaya is a graduating senior from Eastern Senior High School. After high school she is planning to attend Louisiana State University to obtain a Bachelor of Science. Her intended major is pre-nursing, but she also wants to explore more of the health sciences field to help her discover the right role for her. ATC has heavily impacted her future by displaying a range of possibilities in which she can see herself. With internships, interviews, and one-on-one presentations from health professions, this all has helped her be able to imagine and create a future for herself. For fun, she enjoys going out with friends, traveling, and shopping. Chaya has received over $300,000 in scholarships, accepted to 20 colleges, earned 21 dual enrollment credits, and completed one internship. 

Shakade Washington, Cybersecurity | Sojourner Truth Montessori PCS  
Shakade Washington is a 10th grade honor roll student at Sojourner Truth Montessori PCS. He was born and raised in Israel, and reads, writes, and speaks both English and Hebrew fluently. Shakade has also traveled to and lived in 4 different countries. In school, he does well with math and studied cybersecurity with the ATC program. After school, Shakade loves to play video games and plays soccer on a league in DC. He would like to go pro while continuing with cybersecurity.  

Ciara Weldon, Cybersecurity | Paul Public Charter School  
Ciara is a rising senior at Paul Public Charter School. She wants to pursue a career in Information Technology, Engineering, or Computer Science. The ATC has given her opportunities she would otherwise not have. She plans to attend a four-year institution. She enjoys journaling and listening to music.
