Adult Education

In the District of Columbia all residents can be learners. Each new job or stage of life can be an opportunity to brush up on skills or learn new information. OSSE provides resources to help District residents decide what step to take next to meet their educational and career goals. Whether you are a teenager who wants to go back to school, an adult who needs a high school degree/GED for your next job, or a mom who is ready to re-enroll in high school or college, we can help you take the next step!

The REC provides centralized services for out of school youth between the ages of 16 and 24 years old who want to reconnect to educational options and other critical services so they can earn a high school diploma or equivalency.

OSSE Adult and Family Education funds eligible providers to support District residents interested in taking the next step on their chosen career pathways, regardless of their starting point. These organizations offer Integrated Education and Training (IET) which includes adult literacy, workforce readiness, workforce training and support services, all offered concurrently.

If you are planning to go to college or apply for a job, the GED® test can help you get there. Did you know? The District recognizes DC residents with a state diploma if they pass the Series General Educational Development (GED®) tests or completed the requirements of the National External Diploma Program (NEDP).

OSSE seeks to encourage first-time adult college students and adult learners who attended college and left without obtaining a degree to earn postsecondary credentials.
