In February 2012, the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) will submit a flexibility request regarding the implementation of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA)–commonly known as No Child Left Behind–to the US Department of Education.
In 2011, OSSE served over 10,000 District children in Early Childhood programing and trained and supported 3,752 child care and Pre-K professionals to create high-quality learning environments throughout the city.
The Office of Public Charter School Financing and Support (OPCSFS) provided over $36.2 Million to District of Columbia public charter schools last year for the construction, acquisition, and renovation of 22 school facilities through OSSE's Direct Loan Fund.
Since its inception in 1999 through the close of the 2010-2011 academic year, the District of Columbia Tuition Assistance Grant Program (DCTAG) has awarded over $284 million to help nearly 18,000 District students supplement the gap between in-state and out-of-state tuition at public institutions across 49 states and the District.
