Washington, DC – To create and expand community learning centers with school enrichment opportunities and supplemental support services for District of Columbia students, the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) has issued a public notice of 2013 Fiscal Year funding availability for the 21th Century Community Learning Centers (CCLC) Grant.
“Just as learning does not cease when the final school bell rings for the day, neither should access to services and student support,” said State Superintendent Hosanna Mahaley. “OSSE is committed to ensuring District children have connected and comprehensive access to academic enrichment, and we look forward to working with CCLC partner organizations to carry out our mission.”
Funded by the United States Department of Education and administered by the OSSE Division of Elementary and Secondary Education, CCLC Grants allow District children to receive a range of services to support student learning and development during non-school hours including, but not limited to: tutoring and mentoring, homework assistance, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) programs, and community service opportunities, as well as music, arts, sports and cultural activities. Community Learning Centers also offer family literacy and development services and help working parents by providing a safe environment for students when school is out of session
CCLC grant awards may range from $50,000 to $500,000.00, and organizations eligible to apply for CCLC Grants include elementary or secondary public schools, nonprofit, faith or community-based organizations, academic institutions or other similarly accessible facilities.
