Public Charter School Financing and Support

The Office of Public Charter School Financing and Support (OPCSFS) was created in the FY 2003 Appropriations Act. The OPCSFS manages several federally funded programs for public charter school facility financing, including the Revolving Direct Loan Fund for Public Charter School Improvement; the Revolving Credit Enhancement Fund; the City Build Incentive Grant program; and the Charter School Incubator Facility Initiative. In addition, the OPCSFS manages the District’s federal Charter Schools Program grant from the United States Department of Education, which funds the start-up and implementation of new public charter schools.
The OPCSFS also funds or has funded various programs to improve public charter school quality, such as Quality Schools Incentive grants, Public Charter School Teacher Compensation grants, and the Charter Schools Support Services grant. In the future, the OPCSFS will continue to provide financing, technical assistance, and grants to improve the quality of public charter schools, as well as support the dissemination of best practices and innovation between all DC public schools, both charter and traditional public schools.
Mission:
The Office of Public Charter School Financing and Support’s mission is to provide efficient support and assistance for the creation and sustainability of high quality public charter schools.
Vision:
The OPCSFS will lead the nation in supporting the highest quality public charter schools.
