National External Diploma Program (NEDP)
AFE provides state oversight of the National External Diploma Program (NEDP) and works in collaboration with the DC Public Schools which runs three of the District’s eight NEDP sites and issues the diploma. The NEDP is managed by the Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment System (CASAS).
The NEDP provides a unique way for adults to earn a high school diploma. The NEDP allows adults to demonstrate their high school level skills by applying their life and work experiences in real life contexts. Each candidate must demonstrate one hundred percent mastery of the 65 NEDP academic competencies and one vocational competency in order to receive a diploma. A list of NEDP competencies is available on the CASAS website. A user account is required.
The District of Columbia has eight NEDP sites:
- Academy of Hope
- Ballou STAY High School
- Booker T. Washington Public Charter School – Virtual Enterprise Program
- Education Strengthens Families Public Charter School at Mary’s Center
- Living Wages of Washington
- Roosevelt STAY High School
- Southern Baptist Church
- Spingarn STAY High School
