DC State Board of Education (DCSBOE) member Mary Lord and Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) staff member Gloria Benjamin have been invited by the District of Columbia Arts and Humanities Education Collaborative to join the team representing the District at the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Education Leadership Institute. They will attend the first Institute March 18-20; where they will participate in workshops to discuss how the arts can help transform education. They will meet with other District policymakers, educators and advocates, as well as their counterparts from other states.

The goal of the NEA Education Leaders Institute is to gather representatives from various states to discuss the challenges and formulate strategies in providing arts education in schools.  Participants also have the opportunity to discuss topics such as new media opportunities, curriculum reform, and job training.  The NEA Leaders Institute provides a setting where participants from across the country can come and exchange ideas, form partnerships, and leave with a renewed passion and commitment to arts education.

For more information on the NEA Education Leaders Institute please visit the National Endowment for the Arts.
