OSSE Hosts Adult College and Credentials Fair at Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library on April 13

Tuesday, April 9, 2024
Free Event Connects Adult Learners to Colleges, Postsecondary Credentials and Certifications, and Financial Aid Resources

The Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) encourages DC adults interested in starting college, finishing a degree, or earning a postsecondary credential or certification to attend the upcoming 2024 Adult College and Credentials (ACC) Fair to learn how they can earn a degree or credential and pay for it. The fair takes place from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., on Saturday, April 13, at the Martin Luther King Memorial Library.

“The majority of the high-demand, high-wage careers in the DC region that can put DC residents on a pathway to the middle class require a college degree or a postsecondary credential,” said State Superintendent Dr. Christina Grant. “We know those jobs are out there and we know DC residents can do the work with the right education and training. The Adult College and Credentials Fair connects residents with resources and supports so they can align their postsecondary paths with their career goals and aspirations. I encourage all DC residents ages 18 and older to attend the fair to learn more about their options.”

DC residents who are 18 and older and interested in starting college, finishing a degree, or earning a postsecondary credential or certification are encouraged to attend the ACC Fair. The event provides opportunities for attendees to explore college and career interests, discover adult-friendly postsecondary options, and find ways to pay for their education. Attendees can also meet with enrollment representatives to complete degree audits and transcript reviews, and one on one with financial aid advisors to review their unique circumstances. The fair will also include resources specifically targeted to early childhood educators who need to earn their associate degree.

This year’s ACC Fair will feature presentations from Reach 4 Success, the Department of Investment, Securities, and Banking (DISB), UPO Workforce Training Institute, and the community-based organization CDMA Business Model Academy of Greater Washington. During the working lunch period, OSSE and DISB will present a workshop on the latest updates and best practices for applying to the newly designed Free Application for Federal Student Aid.
