Office of the State Superintendent of Education Announces Funding Opportunities

The Office of the State Superintendent of Education’s Wellness and Nutrition Services department is pleased to provide a series of trainings for the Child and Adult Family Care Food Program (CACFP) participating child care food service providers and family day care home providers. 

The training program is funded as a part of the 2007 Team Nutrition Training Grant for the District of Columbia by the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA’s), Food and Nutrition Service (FNS). The trainings will focus on healthy and safe meal service planning, preparation, and presentation for pre-school children which will include food demonstrations provided by the Capital Area Food Bank. In addition, each participant will receive training guides and resources.

The deadline for the registration is 4:30 pm, June 30, 2009. Each registrant must commit five weeks and two evenings per week unless they are registered as a family day care home provider. The trainings will be held at the UDC, Cooperative Extension Service, Center for Nutrition, Diet and Health located at 410 8th Street NW Room 301, Washington, DC 20001. The Office of Elementary and Secondary Education is pleased to announce the availability of funding through the 21st Century Community Learning Centers Program. The 21st CCLC grant competition seeks to award applications that will establish and/or expand community learning centers that will assist learning and development for school-age children who attend schools in the District of Columbia and their families, during out-of-school time. Upcoming Funding Opportunities – The Office of the State Superintendent of Education is pleased to announce the release of two Requests for Applications (RFAs), under the No Child Left Behind Act, Title II B - Mathematics and Science Partnerships (MSP) and Title II D-Enhancing Education Through Technology (EETT). These two competitive grant opportunities focus on improving the academic outcomes of our children. The Mathematics and Science Partnerships grant focuses on the professional development of Science and Mathematics teachers in Science and/or Mathematics through partnerships with a high need Local Education Agency (LEA) and a Higher Institute of Education (IHE). The Enhancing Education Through Technology grant improves student achievement through the integration of technology and curriculum.
