The DC State Board of Education (DCSBOE) approved proposed changes to the truancy regulations at a public meeting held Wednesday, August 26, 2009.

State Board President Lisa Raymond stated, “I believe that the revised regulations will improve interagency cooperation to improve attendance citywide. These changes ensure that schools will provide early, direct intervention to students; provide a longer time period before children are entered into the realm of adjudication; and fully explain the specific service agencies to which children at different ages will be referred.”

The State Board was briefed on the recommended changes to the truancy regulations by the Office of the State Superintendent of Education. The changes to the truancy regulations were to make minor changes to the existing language. These changes detailed specific age related information outlining at what ages students are referred to different service agencies.
