Public Comment: 2023 Proposed Guidance for Students With The Most Significant Cognitive Disabilities

Wednesday, July 12, 2023

The Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) is seeking public input on guidance to support individualized education program (IEP) teams in making statewide assessment recommendations for students with the most significant cognitive disabilities. Using this proposed guidance, IEP teams can carefully examine student data and needs to determine for which students alternate statewide assessments may be appropriate. OSSE is proposing updates to the currently published guidance that includes eligibility criteria that better reflects the needs of the student population in the District of Columbia.

The proposed updates to the guidance can be found here. OSSE welcomes and encourages your comments regarding the intent to update our currently published guidance to better meet the needs of DC students and IEP teams. Comments may be submitted via email to [email protected] by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2023. If you wish to provide comment, please include your full name, organization (if applicable) and contact information. OSSE will review all comments and may incorporate feedback as applicable.
