Thursday, October 25, 2012

Weather Update

OSSE DOT continues to monitor Hurricane Sandy and its potential impact on the District. Transportation Services may be affected in case of severe weather.

Potential Impact of Hurricane Sandy on Student Transportation
There is a strong possibility that the DC Metropolitan region may experience a severe rain/wind event early next week as Hurricane Sandy moves up the East Coast.

For Parents
As a reminder, The OSSE Division of Student Transportation will follow DCPS during periods of inclement weather. The policy applies to ALL public and non-public schools. If DCPS is closed, OSSE-DOT WILL NOT provide transportation services for any students on that day.

If DCPS has a delayed opening, OSSE- DOT WILL provide transportation services, but the student’s pick up time will be based upon the DCPS delayed start.

If your child’s school chooses to remain open when OSSE- DOT is not providing services, please be sure to make alternative transportation arrangements.  For additional information, please visit the Office of the State Superintendent’s website at www.osse.dc.gov.

We encourage parents to continue to monitor the local news and to remain in contact with their child’s school as the storm progresses.  For school closing information, you can check the OSSE website at www.osse.dc.gov and the DC Public Schools website at www.dcps.dc.gov for further updates.
