State-Only Post-Baccalaureate Accreditation and Program Approval
This accreditation option is for institutions, agencies, and organizations that seek to prepare post-Baccalaureate, non-degree teacher and administrator candidates for roles in District of Columbia schools. While programs under this option may include degree options, degrees cannot be a required component of the licensure programs approved under this accreditation option. It is expected that prior to being admitted into a program under this pathway, candidates will already possess a baccalaureate degree and will have demonstrated proficiency in the subject area for which they are seeking DC licensure. It is anticipated that programs will be accelerated in nature, and will typically begin with an in-depth pre-service field experience followed by a full-time teaching placement incorporating intensive mentoring for candidates. Institutions, agencies, and organizations granted accreditation and program approval through this route are eligible to recommend program completers to the Office of the State Superintendent of Education’s (OSSE) Educator Licensure and Accreditation unit for state licensure.
Professional Education Units seeking state recognition through the State-Only Accreditation and Program Approval Process shall follow the standards, timelines, and accreditation and program review procedures as defined by the District of Columbia Office of the State Superintendent of Education.
