The social studies and history standards provide teachers and curriculum coordinators with a summary of what history and social science content should be taught from grade to grade, pre-kindergarten through high school. Adapted from the highly rated California and Massachusetts curriculum frameworks, the standards incorporate the comments and suggestions of area teachers and administrators. The requirements strike a balance between US and world history, as well as among the many disciplines of the social sciences.
The learning standards outline what learners of social science and history should know and demonstrate by the end of each grade or course. They detail the knowledge of history, geography, economics, and politics and government that students are expected to acquire at a particular grade level.
