The MKV Grant Program is a federally funded program authorized by Title VII-B of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act of 1987, Section 726, and was reauthorized on Dec. 10, 2015 by Title IX, Part A of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) made effective on Oct. 1, 2016. Each year, OSSE’s Homeless Education Program (HEP) holds a competition for eligible local education agencies (LEAs) serving students experiencing homelessness in pre-kindergarten through grade 12 in the District of Columbia.
The intent of the MKV competitive grant is to provide supplemental funding to help:
- Facilitate the identification, enrollment, attendance, and success in school of homeless children and youth; and
- Ensure homeless children and youth have equal access to the same free, appropriate public education as provided to all other students.
Applications are due Friday, July 24, 2020 by 3 p.m. and must be submitted through the Enterprise Grants Management System (EGMS). Applications submitted after 3 p.m. on July 24, 2020, will not be forwarded to the review panel for funding consideration. Any additions or deletions to an application will not be accepted after the deadline—no exceptions can be made.
