Multilingual Learner Institute 2024

Monday, Aug. 12, 2024

The Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) is pleased to announce its Multilingual Learner Institute, “Advancing Literacy, Culture and Multilingualism,” to be held on Monday, Aug. 12 at the Kellogg Conference Center at Gallaudet University. This convening will bring educators, researchers, and practitioners in the District of Columbia together to support multilingual learners enrolled in both English language acquisition and dual language programs.

The institute provided the District’s educators the opportunity to:

  • Engage with stakeholders to reflect on best practices to develop literacy skills;
  • Collaborate with other educators to build a culture of excellence; and
  • Share promising practices to advance equity and quality education services delivered to multilingual learners.

Call for Proposals: Present a Workshop During the Institute’s Breakout Session!

The OSSE Multilingual Learner Institute 2024 seeks researchers, university/college professors, professional facilitators, consultants and educational leaders to deliver a practice-oriented 90-minute workshop related to the institute theme “Advancing Literacy, Culture and Multilingualism” and one of the following areas:

  • Best Instructional practices for multilingual learners;
  • Building capacity for educators serving multilingual learners;
  • Collaboration among educators for content and language integration; and
  • Leadership of educational programs to serve multilingual learners.

We welcome multilingual proposals! The proposals can be submitted in English, a language other than English, or bilingual. Individuals or teams may submit workshop proposals using this form. Proposals are due Friday, May 3.
