OSSE, in collaboration with Dr. Malone and Dr. Al’Uqdah of Howard University, will provide equity trainings specifically for school based educators and staff. In this workshop, participants will explore how implicit bias infiltrates our policies within schools. Attendees will examine some national and local educational policies to explore if implicit bias plays a role in the intention and implementation. Attendees will work together to adjust policies that are deemed to be founded on implicit bias. Best practices for reducing the effects of implicit bias, prejudice, and stereotypes will be explored.
At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Differentiate between implicit biases within individual and systems,
- Identify and describe types of implicit biases policies within schools and
- Describe ways they can effectively address implicit bias policies within schools.
