Math Training: Integrating Algebra and Technology with Bootstrap

Last Date:

810 First St. NE Washington, DC 20002
Third Floor, Grand Hall B

Bootstrap is a program that aids students in developing math skills by integrating technology and teaching students to program their own video games using purely algebraic concepts. The National Science Foundation project has demonstrated that students that use this integrated curriculum have been shown to make meaningful gains in math skills. In addition, research has shown that Bootstrap has great potential in engaging diverse student populations. OSSE invites DC middle and high school math teachers to attend two-day training where the Bootstrap program will be introduced.
The training curricula are aligned to the Common Core State Standards for mathematics and can be integrated into an algebra, technology, or secondary STEM class. Bootstrap can also be used as part of a stand-alone introductory computer science course. Participants will receive supplemental materials, materials for students, and access to ongoing technical assistance for classroom implementation. To learn more about Bootstrap programing visit http://www.bootstrapworld.org/. Participation is free of charge.
This two-day training will take place on Sept. 25-26, 2017, 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. in the Third Floor Grand Hall at OSSE.

Space is limited to 30 participants.
