OSSE's Division of Teaching and Learning is pleased to announce Part 2 of a new professional development series focused on building capacity and developing high-quality individual education programs (IEPs).
On March 22, 2017 the U.S. Supreme Court issued a unanimous opinion in Endrew F. v. Douglas County School District. In that case, the Court redefined the free appropriate public education (FAPE) requirements in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). This training series will provide an overview of the decision and provide LEAs with support to develop capacity among their special education staff to meet the more rigorous standard for IEP quality set forth by Endrew F.
- Part 1: Using Data to Describe Students’ Present Level of Performance (September & October 2018)
- Part 2: Using Data to Set IEP Goals (November & December 2018, full day session)
- Part 3: Using Data to Design Appropriate Accommodations, Modifications, and Supports (February & March 2019)
- Part 4: Using Data to Propose Appropriate Service Hours and Setting (April & May 2019)
In Part 2 of the series, Using Data to Set IEP Goals, participants will learn and understand:
- Legal requirements related to IEP goal development
- Key concepts of IEP goal development
- How to use data to draft IEP goals that are appropriately ambitious
- How to create internal protocols that support effective progress monitoring practices
Part 2 of this training series will be offered on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2018, and repeated on Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2018, Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2018, and Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2018. All sessions are from 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. and take place at OSSE, Room 108. Space is limited and registration is required. Priority will be given to individuals who attended Part 1 in September or October 2018. Participants from the same LEA or school should plan to attend on the same date whenever possible, to maximize the opportunity for collaboration and immediate application of course concepts to your team’s work.
