Drama and Games for Social Emotional Learning

Next Date:
Thursday, January 25, 2018 -
1:00pm to 4:30pm

New OSSE Headquarters
1050 First St. NE
Fifth Floor Conference Room

K-12 educators, leaders, and school staff are invited to join OSSE for a Restorative Practices workshop on using drama and games to teaching social emotional learning. Social and emotional development through drama and games provides a living laboratory for your restorative circles that enables participants to practice engaging in creative ways to build community, approach problems, express feelings, and clarify values. It mirrors relevant social and personal issues that young people face on a day-to-day basis and explores various ways to achieve positive lifestyle changes. Through dramatic engagers, young people are provided the opportunity for creative awareness-building and social and emotional skills development. In turn, they learn to make wiser decisions as well as the necessary changes to lead healthy and productive lives.
This workshop is open to teachers, administrators, and school staff serving students in grades K-12 in District of Columbia public and public charter schools. The workshop will take place on Thursday, Jan. 25, 2018, 1-4:30 p.m., at the New OSSE Headquarters, 1050 First St. NE, Fifth Floor Conference Room. Participants who serve students in grades K-6 are also encouraged to attend a related training, Restorative Justice Practices for Younger Learners, to be held in the morning on the same day in the same location. See separate training announcement above for more details.
