Locate a Reading Site

The childcare centers participating in the Early Readers Now! program were selected because of their commitment to improve the school readiness of 3 and 4 year old children at these sites. All of these centers are subsidized by DHS and receive city funds to help low income parents pay for their children's care. All participating children were selected by their teachers because they are nearly ready for school, and would benefit from extra time reading and conversing with a caring adult.

Additionally, all the centers in the program receive training on how to manage volunteers, as well as supplies such as books, book cases, book kits, reading lists, and book journals.

Early Readers Now! reading sites are located all over the District, but volunteers are only placed as soon as both the center and the Early Readers Now! Book Buddy organization have been paired and met several times to identify the center's and the volunteering organization's needs. Book Buddies must also attend a training, have a Police clearance* and proof of a negative TB test* result.
