The Office of Early Childhood Education provides support for and collaborates with other public and private child and family advocacy organizations to formulate an effective continuum of services and care for District children five years of age and younger. This office also provides access to before and after school services for eligible children up to age 12.
The Early Childhood Education office manages a comprehensive, subsidized childcare program for eligible children and families. It also oversees the Infants and Toddlers with Disabilities Program (ITD), a prevention and intervention strategy that promotes the identification and screening of infants and toddlers for developmental delays up to 3 years of age.
In addition, it manages scholarship programs for national accreditation of centers and homes. The office provides a scholarship program for individuals seeking professional early childhood development credentials.
