Office of Public Charter School Financing and Support (OPCSFS)

The Office of Public Charter School Financing and Support (OPCSFS) was created in the FY 2003 Appropriations Act. The OPCSFS manages several federally funded programs for public charter school facility financing, including the $26 million Revolving Direct Loan Fund for Public Charter School Improvement; the $22 million Revolving Credit Enhancement Fund; the City Build Incentive Grant program; and the Charter School Incubator Facility Initiative. In addition, the OPCSFS manages the District’s federal Charter Schools Program grant from the United States Department of Education, which funds the start-up and implementation of new public charter schools. The OPCSFS also funds or has funded various programs to improve public charter school quality, such as College Access grants, Flexible Funds grants, the Truancy Reduction grant and the Quality Schools Project. In the future, the OPCSFS will continue to provide technical assistance and grants to improve the quality of public charter schools, and we will also support the dissemination of best practices and innovation between all DC public schools, both charter and traditional public schools.
