State Advisory Panel on Special Education 
2006-2007 Membership
 
DC’s State Advisory Panel on Special Education performs the following functions:
  • Advises the State Education Agency (SEA), the DC Board of Education, and the DC Public Schools of unmet needs within the state in the education of children with disabilities
  • Comments publicly on any rules or regulations proposed by the state regarding the education of children with disabilities
  • Advises the SEA in developing evaluations and reporting on data to the US Secretary of Education
  • Advises the SEA in developing corrective action plans to address findings identified in federal monitoring reports
  • Advises the SEA in developing and implementing policies relating to the coordination of services for children with disabilities
  • Advises the SEA on the education of eligible students with disabilities who have been convicted as adults and incarcerated in adult prisons, even if a state assigns general supervision responsibility for those students to a public agency other than an SEA (20 USC 1412(a)(21)(D))
