State Advisory Panel on Special Education for the District of Columbia

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) requires that every state establish and maintain a State Advisory Panel on the education of children with disabilities. Following this piece of legislation, the Mayor authorized the establishment of the State Advisory Panel on Special Education for the District of Columbia. 
 
The State Advisory Panel provides policy guidance on special education and related services for children with disabilities. By effectively adhering to the specific responsibilities mandated in IDEA and responding to the specific needs of the District of Columbia, the State Advisory Panel is a powerful tool for improving the educational outcomes for children and youth with disabilities.
