Legislation

The State Education Office Establishment Act of 2000 (DC Act 13-387) created a State Education Office (SEO) under the Office of the Mayor. Enacted by the DC Council in July 2000, the Act directed the SEO during its first year to further define its role, its functions, and how they would be carried out. The legislation below established the SEO and describes its responsibilities.

Legislation Date Created Description
Establishment Act* July 11, 2000 This legislation outlines the responsibilities and role of the new State Education Office in public education in the District of Columbia.
Residency Verification Rulemaking* June 29, 2001 This rulemaking establishes a policy for verifying residency for all public school students in the District, and establishes the documentation satisfactory to prove District of Columbia residency necessary for annual student enrollment.
