Superintendent Aguirre, #BeyGOOD, and State Bags Provide Support to District Students with Back to School “Pep Rally for Good”

OSSE AND DCAYA Join Forces to Gather Students for Celebration

Washington, DC – The District of Columbia’s State Superintendent Jesús Aguirre recently participated in the DC Alliance of Youth Advocates (DCAYA) back-to-school pep rally and back pack give-away at Turner Elementary School. The event was a part of Beyonce Knowles’ #BEYGOODxSTATE “Give Back Pack Program”, which is taking place in five cities across the east coast. Courtesy of Beyonce’s philanthropic initiative #BeyGOOD and the Brooklyn-based backpack company STATE Bags, District elementary school children from under-resourced communities will receive custom-made backpacks filled with school supplies.

In the District, more than 4,000 students were identified as homeless during the 2013-2014 school year. OSSE’s homeless education program works with public schools, government agencies, and community-based organizations, like DCAYA to ensure that homeless youth are granted the opportunity to enroll, attend, and succeed in school.  By partnering with #BeyGOOD and State Bags, DCAYA and OSSE are working to ensure that the city’s most vulnerable student populations are provided with the resources they need to have a successful school year and an exciting back-to-school event.

About #BeyGOOD
Since its inception a year ago, #BeyGOOD, in partnership with global charity organizations, has reached more than 2 million people across the globe with tangible support. #BeyGOOD has aided in putting people back to work, restocked desperately depleted clothing donation centers and provided counseling, housing, food and medical assistance to the homeless, through an estimated 25 tons of clothing donations which assisted more than 20 global charity partners. #BeyGOOD has supported more than a dozen youth organizations that serve the most vulnerable and at risk young people that include those who are orphaned, homeless, neglected, compromised with violent crimes and sex trafficking, unemployed and physically challenged. Our goal is, and will always remain, to inspire people everywhere to be kind, to be charitable and to #BeyGOOD. In doing so, we make the world better, one good charitable action at a time. The movement continues. Get involved. www.Beyonce.com/BeyGOOD
