OSSE's New Search Tool to Answer Students' Key Questions about College

Thursday, April 23, 2015

The District of Columbia Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) today launched a new search tool, My College Fact Finder, which will make it easier for District students, families and school counselors to navigate the college selection process.

More than 50 high school students at Friendship Tech Academy participated in the live demonstration of the new college search tool along with Acting State Superintendent Hanseul Kang. The college hopefuls had the opportunity to browse statistics for more than 1,000 institutions of higher education and provide valuable feedback on how the tool can be more impactful.

“My College Fact Finder allows students to see how the other DC students have fared at a number of colleges and universities across the country, sharing data on DC student graduation rates and transfer pathways,” said Dr. Antoinette Mitchell, Assistant Superintendent of Postsecondary and Career Education at OSSE. “This wide range of information will assist students, their families, and high school counselors in making more informed college choices.”

OSSE’s new tool was developed in partnership with the Education Advisory Board to provide data directly to District students and families who need assistance making postsecondary decisions. Users can access key data including student body size, typical SAT scores, and graduation rates for colleges and universities throughout the United States.
