OSSE to Hold Two Public Hearings on the Draft 2012–2013 Child Care and Development Fund (CCDF) State Plan

Friday, April 29, 2011
The CCDF assists low-income families, families receiving temporary public assistance, and those transitioning from public assistance in obtaining child care so they can work or attend training/education

The Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) will hold two public hearings on the proposed 2012-2013 Child Care and Development Fund State Plan (CCDF).  The CCDF assists low-income families, families receiving temporary public assistance, and those transitioning from public assistance in obtaining child care so they can work or attend training/education. The programs also improve the quality of child care, and promote coordination among early childhood development and before-and-after school programs.  The CCDF Plan is prepared by OSSE/ECE every two (2) years and provides a description of the District’s subsidy child care services. It also serves as the roadmap and provides an opportunity for the District to demonstrate the services provided to meet the needs of low-income children and families.

OSSE welcomes input from all stakeholders and invites all interested parties to review the Citizen’s Guide and draft 2012-2013 State Plan at www.osse.dc.gov. Copies of the Draft 2012-2013 State Plan are available in DC public libraries listed below** and at the OSSE Division of Early Childhood Education, 810 First Street, NE, 4th Floor, Washington, DC 20002. Members of the public will have the opportunity to make comments on the Draft State Plan from April 26, 2011 – May 20, 2011 at 4 pm.

Those interested in presenting at the public hearings should contact (202) 727-1839 to register. Registered persons will be scheduled to testify for a three-minute period. Individuals who do not register with the OSSE prior to the hearing may testify based upon a first come-first-served basis as time permits within the time frame announced for the hearing. On-site assistance with registration will be available prior to the hearing.

Translation as well as sign language interpretation services will be available if the services are requested at least three business days in advance of the hearing to ensure availability. Request these services by contacting Helen Jordan, at (202) 727-1839 or email [email protected].

Written comments on the draft CCDF State Plan may be submitted at either of the hearings or throughout the comment period.  All written comments must be received by 4:00 pm Monday, May 20, 2011. Address comments on the Child Care and Development Fund State Plan to: Carolyn J. Terry-Taylor, Program Analyst, Division of Early Childhood Education, 810 First Street, NE, 4th Floor, Washington, DC 20002 or email [email protected].
