The District of Columbia State Athletic Association (DCSAA) will host a reception Wednesday evening to honor 15 high school seniors who have been selected to receive $1,000 college scholarships as part of the DCSAA’s partnerships with Modell’s Sporting Goods and Wendy’s restaurants.

The Student-Athlete Academic Scholarship Program winners come from 14 different high schools in the District, including public schools, public charter schools and independent/private schools. The scholarships awards will be used to help cover the cost of tuition and fees, room and board and books at an accredited college or university.

The reception will be held at the Charles Sumner School Museum and Archives, 1201 17th Street NW. It begins at 5:30 p.m. in the Hurlbut Memorial Hall on the third floor.

“We are proud to honor these young men and women for their success in the classroom, in athletics and in the community,” DCSAA Executive Director Clark Ray said. “We are very thankful to have partners like Modell’s and Wendy’s, who recognize the importance of giving back to the young people in our city and helping them prepare for a future filled with success.”

The scholarship winners are:

  • Tarik Abraham, Washington Latin Public Charter School, Basketball
  • Joshua Bain, Theodore Roosevelt Senior High School, Baseball
  • Abigail Bibb, Woodrow Wilson Senior High School, Volleyball
  • Angel Cheeks, Friendship Collegiate Academy, Volleyball/Cheerleading
  • Alexis Coates, Woodrow Wilson Senior High School, Softball/Volleyball
