The District of Columbia State Board of Education (State Board) will hold a working session to discuss the District's Equitable Access Plan. The Equitable Access Plan, required by the U.S. Department of Education, is a plan that will look at equity gaps in the access to excellent teachers to ensure that students from poor and minority backgrounds are not taught at higher rates than other children by inexperienced, unqualified, out-of-field and ineffective teachers. The plan will also seek to address inequities between high and low performing schools. Although the District of Education developed teacher equity plans in 2006 (and revised them subsequently), OSSE is required to actively engage stakeholders in the development of the plan.

The State Board will also discuss plans to establish a Student Advisory Committee, to be led by the State Board's student representatives, and plans to re-establish the Bennetta Bullock Washington Scholarship, an annual scholarship for graduation seniors already accepted to college. 

The working session will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at 4:30pm at 441 4th Street NW, Room 1114.

While working sessions are open to the public, individuals and representatives of organizations are not permitted to speak or participate during the working session.
