DC State Board of Education Reviews Recommendations for Graduation Requirements and Next Generation Science Standards

Washington, DC – The District of Columbia State Board of Education (DCSBOE) will hold a public meeting to discuss all public feedback and suggested recommendations to amend DCMR Title 5, Chapter 22 Section 2203, which currently requires students to complete 24 credits/units and 100 hours of community service to earn a high school diploma. The State Board also will review the Next Generation Science Standards, a new set of core concepts that emphasize designing and "doing" developed by the National Research Council, the National Science Teachers Association, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and Achieve. All students, parents, and educators, and community members are invited to provide testimony.

The public meeting will be held on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at 5:30 p.m. at 441 4th Street, NW, in the Old Council Chambers, located on the lobby level of the building.

Individuals who wish to comment at the meeting must notify the staff in advance by contacting the Office of the DC State Board of Education by phone at (202) 741-0888 or by e-mail at [email protected]. Please provide one electronic copy in advance and bring 15 copies to the hearing for the State Board members to view.
