Policy to Practice: The Physical Education and Physical Activity Components of the Healthy Schools Act

In this informative and collaborative session, participants will learn about the physical education and physical activity components of the Healthy Schools Act and the far-reaching benefits of physical activity for students. Participants will explore and share creative ways to increase physical activity before, during and after the school day. This session will provide participants with resources, strategies and tools for increasing physical activity among students.

Speaker Information

Katie Lantuh, Physical Activity & Physical Education Specialist, Wellness & Nutrition Services Division, OSSE

Katie Lantuh is the Physical Education and Physical Activity Specialist on the Healthy Schools Act Initiatives Team in the Division of Wellness and Nutrition Services at the Office of the State Superintendent of Education. In this position, Katie works to implement the physical education and physical activity components of the Healthy Schools Act and promote physical activity in DC public and DC public charter schools. Prior to joining OSSE in 2013, Katie was a program manager at the Young Entrepreneurs Academy, a dorm director at the University of Rochester, and a counselor at the Mt. Hope Family Center in Rochester, NY. Katie has a BA in psychology and music and a MS in education policy from the University of Rochester. As a graduate student, Katie focused on health and wellness policies for K-12 students and started a learn to row program for students in the City of Rochester. In her free time, Katie coaches a high school crew team in Washington, DC and enjoys running, biking, and wakeboarding.
