Sandra Schlicker

Director of Wellness and Nutrition Services
Dr. Sandra Schlicker serves as the Director of Wellness and Nutrition Services in the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE). In this position, she implements the DC Healthy Schools Act and the National School Lunch, Breakfast, and Afterschool Snack and Supper Programs. Schlicker also oversees the following programs: The Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Program, the Summer Food Service Program, the Child and Adult Care Program, the Emergency Food Assistance Program, and the Commodity Food Distribution Program. In addition, she oversees the administration of the Youth Risk Behavior Survey, School Health Profiles and the Health and Physical Education Learning Standards and Assessment.
Prior to joining OSSE in 2008, Dr. Schlicker was the Executive Director of the American Society for Clinical Nutrition. She additionally served as a Senior Program Officer with the Food and Nutrition Board at the Institute of Medicine at the National Academy of Sciences. There, she managed the Food Forum Program and completed Dietary Reference Intake Reports.
Schlicker is a member of several professional organizations including the American Dietetic Association and the American Society of Nutrition. Sandra has also served as a Commissioner on Serve DC and the Mayor’s Commission on Food and Nutrition. Dr. Schlicker earned a BS in Science and an MS and PhD in Food and Nutrition from Penn State. In her free time, she serves as a reviewer for nutrition journals.
