Patrick D. Mara
Patrick D. Mara is owner of the Dolan Group, LLC, where he provides fundraising and government relations consulting services for nonprofit and other community organizations. Previously, Mr. Mara served as Manager of Government Relations at ML Strategies, LLC, where he advocated for education, clean energy and technology interests. Mr. Mara is a past contractor with the Department of Energy where he specialized in renewable energy and green transportation projects. He began his career with the late Senator John H. Chafee (R-RI) on the staff of the US Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works.
Mr. Mara is passionate about education in the District of Columbia, as he currently tutors a neighborhood District of Columbia Public School special education student weekly through Project Northstar. In the past, Mr. Mara served as a mentor to 9th grade students at the Maya Angelou Public Charter School in Shaw. He also mentored students enrolled in three different District of Columbia Public Schools through the Hoop Dreams Scholarship Fund Program.
Mr. Mara holds an MBA from Babson College. He completed his BA at Marist College, where he currently serves as President of the Alumni Executive Board and sits on the Board of Trustees as the alumni representative.
Mr. Mara sits on the boards of the Columbia Heights Day Initiative, One World Education, College & Career Connections and Jumpstart. He is a past board member of Hope for Kids, a group involved in providing school books and clothing for underprivileged children in the District of Columbia.
Mr. Mara was elected to the District of Columbia State Board of Education in November 2010 as Representative for Ward 1. He lives in the Columbia Heights neighborhood.
