Mary Lord is an award-winning freelance journalist who has been writing about education and visiting schools across the country for more than a decade. Her articles have appeared in a variety of local and national publications, including US News & World Report, where she covered K-12 and higher education.
Ms. Lord, a three-decade Dupont Circle resident, has volunteered in schools since her two teens were toddlers. Along with representing Ward 2 on the DC State Board of Education, she also serves as the Northeast Regional Director for the National Association of the State Boards of Education (NASBE). In addition to being active in on a national board, Ms. Lord has also served on three national study groups, focusing on career and technical education, and the DC Office of the State Superintendent of Education’s (OSSE) working groups on educator quality, career, technical education, and accountability. She also serves her community on the board of the Dupont Circle Citizens Association.
Her husband Woody Landay is TV News Editor for the Australian Broadcasting Company, her daughter Amelia is a junior at the University of Vermont and a Middle School Teacher and her son David is a junior at the Woodrow Wilson SHS Academy of Science Mathematics and Technology studying Engineering.
Ms. Lord, an honors graduate of Harvard University, holds a Bachelor’s degree in East Asian Studies.
