Laura McGiffert Slover

Laura McGiffert Slover is a native Washingtonian with over 16 years experience in the field of education and education policy. She is the Senior Vice President at Achieve, a bipartisan, non-profit organization that helps states develop and implement policies to raise academic standards and graduation requirements, improve assessments and strengthen accountability to prepare all young people for post-secondary education, careers and citizenship. In 2006, Achieve was named by Education Week as one of the most influential education groups in the nation.
Prior to joining Achieve, Ms. Slover taught English at the high school and community college level. Ms. Slover earned her BA in English and American Literature from Harvard University, her MA in Education Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Colorado at Boulder, and her MA in Education Policy from Georgetown University.
Ms. Slover was reelected to serve as a District of Columbia State Board of Education Member for Ward 3 in November 2010. She lives in the Palisades neighborhood with her husband Bill and her daughter Avery.
