D. Kamili Anderson

D. Kamili Anderson brings over 30 years of experience in education to the District of Columbia State Board of Education.  Ms. Anderson is a self-employed editor, writer, and publications/communications consultant whose clients include teachers, administrators, and officials of higher education institutions.

Ms. Anderson has dedicated many years in the Brightwood Community and has recently served as the President of the Brightwood Community Association.  Ms. Anderson is the Founder and President of Transform/ Edit LLC.  Prior to founding her own business, Ms. Anderson has served as publications director for the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education and as a reporter for many magazines that focus on African American and diversity issues.

Ms. Anderson joined the board in April 2011 after winning the special election.  She is honored to represent her community on the board and the students of Ward Four. 

Ms. Anderson is a graduate of Howard University.  She lives in the Brightwood Community where she raised her three children.  She is the proud grandmother of three – and all of them attend District of Columbia Public Schools.
